COVINGTON, GA, January 03, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Martha Jane Gilbert with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Gilbert celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Mrs. Gilbert graduated from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama in January of 1966 with a pre-med biology degree and a BS in English. She was hired to teach secondary English, literature, and writing as well as drama and speech at Alexandria High School in Alexandria, Alabama. During the next few years, she completed her master's degree in English education with a concentration in British literature at Jacksonville State. She was trained in advanced placement (AP) with the TIP Program at Duke University and trained as an AP coordinator at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.
Mrs. Gilbert continued to serve Alexandria High School until retirement in June of 1989, having taught from eighth grade to college courses at Jacksonville State. She served as an adjunct college instructor for eight years. She has also taught two courses of American literature and freshman composition at Gadsden Community College in Gadsden, Alabama for eight years, as well as college courses on Ft. McClellan military base for soldiers enrolled at Gadsden Community College. She worked in business at Friedman's Jewelers, for two years with Filter Queen Home Maintenance Systems, and as a teacher with the American Institute of Banking.
In 1990 Mrs. Gilbert moved to Georgia and was hired by Paulding County High School in Dallas, Georgia. Arriving in May, Mrs. Gilbert was asked to serve as a supply teacher of American Literature in the Spring of 1990 at Paulding County High School. She taught summer school and began teaching grades 9, 11 and 12 in the fall. One year later, she became head of the English department at East Paulding High, also serving as the AP coordinator and AP English literature instructor. Mrs. Gilbert later earned a Northwest Georgia RESA certification in gifted education. For seventeen years, Mrs. Gilbert taught and coordinated AP classes in both Alabama and Georgia. Mrs. Gilbert retired in Georgia in June 2010.
Affectionately called "Mrs. G", Mrs. Gilbert served as an extracurricular activity sponsor, graduation coordinator, as well as a speech and drama coach. She was selected for Who's Who in American High School Teachers and nominated for Georgia's Star Teacher, and has appeared in Who's Who in American Educators as well as Who's Who of American Women. A mother and grandmother, Mrs. Gilbert moved closer to her daughter after retirement. In her free time, she is an active member of her church choir, writes extensively but is not yet published, and also loves reading and travel. Mrs. Gilbert cared for her mother during the last year of her life, which she considers to be the best thing she has ever done.
