With more than 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Shim works as a professor in the Department of Life Science at Chung-Ang University.

Earlier in his career, he served as a research assistant and lecturer at Seowon University, and as a lecturer with Chungbuk National University.
A graduate of Chung-Ang University, Dr. Shim holds a Bachelor of Science in biology, and an MS and PhD in plant biology. As an expert in the field, he is affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the Ecological Society of Korea, the Botanical Society of Korea, the Korean Association for Conservation of Nature, and the Environmental Impact Analysis Committee in the Kyungin Regional Environmental Office.
Throughout his career, Dr. Shim has contributed to numerous articles on such topics as "the effect of micro-organisms and small soil animal population on the decomposition of leaf litters in temperate deciduous forest in Korea" and "characteristics of soil respiration in Pinus densiflora stand undergoing secondary succession by fire-induced forest disturbance." His contributions to the industry have earned him recognition, earning such awards as the Certificate of Commendation from the Ministry of Environment in 2002.
