A retired professor in the department of educational leadership at Texas Women's University since 2004, Dr. Karr first stepped foot on campus as an assistant professor in 1977. Moving into an associate professor role and finally full professor in 1989, she had become a well-known teacher, mentor, and colleague for more than 25 years, specializing in educational foundations, women's studies and communications. Getting into academia immediately following her studies, Dr. Karr had initially received a BA at the University of New Hampshire in 1974, and an MA and Ph.D. at Ohio State University in 1975 and 1976, respectively.
During her tenure, Dr. Karr was also an associate professor at Tufts University during the summer of 1989, an adjunct professor at Northeastern University in Boston from 1976 to 1977, and a visiting lecturer at Texas Woman's University during the summer of 1976. Her career also led to her serving as a reviewer for the Hartcourt Brace Jovanovice College Publications and for Delmar Publishers, and as treasurer and chairman for the North Texas Federated Research. She has conducted a number of speeches and workshops on topics such as creativity, lifelong learning, and learning styles and has been aired on local broadcasting stations numerous times for her expertise. Dr. Karr also spent many years on the editorial staff for Project Innovation in Chula Vista, CA, from 1977 to 2004.
A freelance writer since 2004, Dr. Karr recently authored the book "Cliffhangers" in 2017, and the book "I Never Stopped..." through Archway Publishing in 2016. In 2012, Dr. Karr became a certified Reiki and Shamballa Master and Certified Reiki Master and has been certified in Tong Ren since 2014. Practicing Jin Shin Jitsu since 1995, she also enjoys meditation, tai chi, and various other forms of exercise.
Dr. Karr has received numerous grants and awards, including an Outstanding Adviser/Mentor Award in 2003, a 25-Year Recognition Award from Texas Woman's University in 2002, numerous Poetry Awards from World of Poetry, and a Distinguished Career Teacher Award from Ohio State University in 2001. She has been included in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
