He has held academic positions as tenured Professor and Associate Dean at Belmont University's College of Health Sciences and Nursing. He has also served as Dean of the School of Health Sciences at Indiana Wesleyan University and Dean, College of Health Professions at South University.
Doctor McPhee entered the Army as a Private First Class and served 21 years of Active Duty retiring from the Army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He has held several military positions of increasing responsibilities at Fort Bragg, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Fort Knox, Fort Leavenworth, and Fort Sam Houston. His final assignment was as Director of the Tri-Service School of Occupational Therapy at the Academy of Health Sciences, Fort Sam Houston. Over the years, Dr. McPhee has also lent his extensive range of knowledge to such institutions as the World Health Organization, International Commission on Health Professions, National Institute of Health Statistics, and the Tennessee Education Council for Health Sciences Professions.
A graduate of the University of Washington, the University of Puget Sound, Virginia Commonwealth University, Western Kentucky University, Command and General Staff College, and the University of Texas, Dr. McPhee holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, a Bachelor of Science in occupational therapy, a Master of Science, a Master of Public Administration, and a Doctorate in Public Health. In order to remain active and engaged among his professional circles, he affiliates himself with the Tennessee Occupational Therapy Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association. Throughout his career, he has served on the editorial boards and as a manuscript reviewer for a number of journals, including the American Journal of Occupational Therapy, the Family and Community Health Journal, Journal of Allied Health, and Military Medicine.
Beyond his status as an esteemed and hard-working figure in his industry, Dr. McPhee has been recognized many times for his professional endeavors. He was inducted as an inaugural member of the American Occupational Therapy Foundation's Leaders and Legacies Society, the Army Surgeon General's Order of Military Medical Merit, and as a Fellow in the American Occupational Therapy Association. While on active duty, Dr. McPhee was awarded the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal. In addition to the numerous awards for his service by his profession and the Army, Dr. McPhee has been featured in Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in American Education.
