A medical educator and director of pharmacy tech programs at Midlands Technical College for 27 years, Mr. Ballington officially retired in 2005. He taught as an instructor of health science at the college from 1972 to 2005. Over the course of his career in academia, he developed high-quality training materials for pharmacy technicians by authoring and co-authoring several books, including "Pharmacy for Technicians," "Pharmacology Calculations for Technicians," and "Pharmacy Practice for Technicians."
Prior to working in academia, Mr. Ballington spent the first two years of his career as an animal nutritionist for Spartan Grain & Mill in Spartanburg, SC, and as a microscopist for the South Carolina Department of Agriculture in Columbia, SC. He was president and founder of the Pharmacy Technician Educators Council beginning in 1991, and has been a longtime member of the South Carolina Pharmacy Association, the South Carolina Society of Health Systems Pharmacists, the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, and the American Association of Pharmacy Technicians.
A consultant in his field who also did continuing education work in South Carolina for pharmacy technicians for seven years after retiring, Mr. Ballington has contributed numerous articles to peer-reviewed journals over the years as well, including the Journal of Pharmacy Technology. He holds both a BS and MS from Clemson University.
Awarded with a Pub Award from the South Carolina Society of Health Systems Pharmacists in 1991, a Founder's Award from the American Association of Pharmacy Technicians in 1987, and a Council AES Educator of the Year Award in 2005, Mr. Ballington has been cited in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World. Married to Linda Barnett since 1982 with two children, he enjoys woodworking, and working in his garden.
