Dr. Lee's experience in engineering has earned him the position of principal researcher at the Korea Gas Safety (KGS) Corporation, which he has held since 1995. Since 2005, he has worked with an affiliate of the Institute of Gas Safety Research and Development as a research engineer. He has served in Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do, Republic of Korea, as a member of the technical committee of the High Pressure Gas Safety Control Act, Urban Gas Business Act, Safety Control, and Business of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Act. Dr. Lee's work has also earned him a membership in the planning committee for several organizations under the Korean government, including the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. He has spent 10 years as a professional inspector of equipment for oil and gas plants, and his research has been focused on high-pressure, cryogenics, fire and explosion, and large-scale plants.
A long time researcher, Mr. Lee has heavily focused on science and chemistry, with an educational background that includes a PhD in Chemical Engineering. He has been involved in 16 national research and development projects and published four peer-reviewed research papers to international scientific journals. The Energy Safety Empirical Research Center, an affiliate of KGS, was planned, constructed, and began services on October 25, 2016. Dr. Lee has participated as part of key personnel in all the stages of the building project of the testing infrastructure. He has also participated in the Korea National Energy Strategy Commission, especially for the hydrogen industry. Dr. Lee planned and has led multiple nation-wide research and development projects involving real-scale test based code, standard and regulation for hydrogen station safety design, and management.
Dr. Lee's work earned him an Achievement Award in Honor of Establishing R&D and Test Infrastructures for Gas Safety from the Korea Gas Safety Corporation in 2016. Working in his field has provided the chance to be an industry member of the Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers. Dr. Lee also served in the Republic of Korea Army from 1988 to 1992, his highest rank being private first class.
