With more than 40 years of professional experience in medicine, Dr. Takatsu is recognized as professor emeritus of the University of Tokyo, having worked as a professor with the school. Prior to obtaining these roles, he worked with the Osaka University Medical School, the Kumamoto University Medical School, and the Toyama Prefectural Institute for Pharmaceutical Research. His research has included studying the role of IL-5 receptors in immunology and inflammation. He published over 320 original papers with reviews in English.
Dr. Takatsu began his career as a student at the University of Toyama, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science. He went on to study at Osaka University, where he earned a PhD. He worked at School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University as postdoctoral fellow before joining Osaka University Medical School. He is a member of the American Association of Immunologists, and he has served as the President of the Japanese Society of Immunologists and the Federation of Immunological Societies of Asia-Oceania as well. Throughout his career, Dr. Takatsu has been recognized for his contributions to the field, having earned an International Collaborative Research Award from the Human Frontier Science Program, as well as the Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Medical Award.
