Boasting over 45 years of experience in the field of education, Dr. Gammon taught every age, from kindergarten to the university level. She spent time as an English teacher and Peace Corps volunteer in Venezuela and previously served as the superintendent of schools in rural Arizona from 1981 to 1994. Currently, Dr. Gammon is an adjunct professor at Northern Arizona University, where she teaches literacy and leadership. She also teaches several courses in literacy at Pima Community College.
A longtime member of The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Dr. Gammon is a former president of the National Rural Education Association. She has served in various capacities for several other organizations in the past and is the co-founder of the Arizona Small Schools Association. Within her local community, she has served as president of the board of directors of the Tucson Regional Ballet and enjoys volunteering with local police and fire departments, the Community Food Bank, and Habitat for Humanity International.
Inducted into the Rural Hall of Fame in Arizona in 1996, named Rural Superintendent of the Year in 1993, and recently inducted into the National Rural Hall of Fame in 2018, Dr. Gammon first earned a Bachelor of Arts in education at The University of Arizona, Master of Science in curriculum and instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Ph.D. in secondary education with a concentration in reading and English as a second language at The University of Arizona. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, performing in ballet recitals and ballet boot camp, exercising, and travelling.
