Employed with The Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, CA, since 1989, Dr. Silva began his career as a member of the technical staff in their electronics research laboratory. Making his way into a senior role within just a few years, he then advanced into the role of Engineering Specialist. In 2003, he was named Senior Engineering Specialist in the Communications and Networking Division. Throughout his career at Aerospace, he has supported many projects, including private/secure communications, chaotic radar, analysis of nonlinear circuits, and multicarrier satellite communication channels.
The Aerospace Corporation is a California non-profit corporation that operates a federally funded research and development center headquartered in El Segundo, California. The corporation provides technical guidance and advice on all aspects of space missions to military, civil, and commercial customers to assure space mission success.
Some of Dr. Silva's biggest accomplishments have included co-developing a novel measurement technique for frequency-translating devices that are ubiquitous to modem communication systems, a baseband time-domain measurement technique for accurate device characterization, a new high-frequency broadband chaotic oscillator circuit design that is a basis for advanced secure communications systems, and a new application of a formal stateĀ of-the-art system modeling method to communication components and distortion compensation. He holds several patents in his field as a result.
During the course of his career, Dr. Silva has presented many times at workshops and professional conferences on various topics, as well as at dinner meetings and for various industries and universities. He has also published articles in professional journals and conference proceedings, and a chapter in a book on engineering. In 1992, he also served as a project judge for the 15th annual Herndon Engineering and Science Seminar.
Dr. Silva holds an Associate's degree from the College of the Redwoods. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1982, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1985, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1993 from the University of California at Berkeley.
A fellow and senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics , and member of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics , the American Mathematical Society, as well as several academic/professional fraternities, Dr. Silva was a 1999 recipient of an Aerospace President's Achievement Award and has since been included in two editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
