Since early adolescence, Dr. Malik has had a keen interest in the field of chemistry and mathematics; he has described mathematics as his "first love." As such, Dr. Malik was offered a scholarship to the University of Texas to pursue the study of chemistry. As a student of the University of Texas, Dr. Malik graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with an additional Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. He subsequently continued his studies at Cornell University, later receiving a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in 1998. Following his graduation, Dr. Malik traveled to Scotland and performed postdoctoral work at the University of St. Andrews. Returning to the United States, he also was a postdoctoral student of Princeton University.
Following his postdoctoral studies, Dr. Malik began working as a member of the technical staff at Lucent Technologies, Bell Labs. He began working at General Electric Company in 2003. He now works at Sandvik Hyperion, where he was promoted to Technology Manager in 2011.
Throughout his career, Dr. Malik has contributed to the field of chemistry through his multiple patents and publications. Dr. Malik has been granted more than 12 patents, and he has contributed several articles to a variety of peer-reviewed journals. As an esteemed chemist and researcher, Dr. Malik is a member of the American Chemical Society. Outside of his field and work, Dr. Malik supports the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, where he frequently makes donations and visits.
