A psychology and behavioral sciences professor at New York Institute of Technology, Dr. Tester is a licensed psychologist of more than 30 years and instructor of more than 45 years. Entering academia as an adjunct instructor of clinical counseling at New York Institute of Technology in 1971, he continued to advance through the department, earning the roles of adjunct assistant professor, senior counselor, associate professor, professor and Director. Being able to teach for all these years has been a true honor and he has enjoyed working alongside his students.

Highly educated, Dr. Tester first earned a BTh at Kansas City College in 1957. He then completed a Master's degree at Abilene Christian University in 1961, an STB at Harvard University in 1969, and an EdM, EdD, MPhil, and PhD at Columbia University from 1971 to 1981. A William Wayne Jackson honors scholar from Harvard Divinity School and a fellowship award recipient from the Columbia University Association on Aging, Dr. Tester has been a licensed psychologist in the state of New York since 1983. He formerly worked for Boston Safe Deposit & Trust Company from 1966 to 1969, as a manager of personnel while pursuing his degrees. He also spent time early in his career as a consultant and graduate assistant in the Business School and Teachers' College at Columbia University from 1977 to 1981.

The author of "Trips without Drugs: A Psychologist's Pathways to Ecstasy" in 2014, which focuses on various religious, the book tells an in-depth story of six different groups with which Dr. Tester worked. As a child and young adult, Dr. Tester was a part of a very conservative religious group. He later became a minister in South Dakota and a Sunday school teacher, and has since been very accepting of all spiritual paths. In addition to writing his book, he has contributed numerous articles to professional journals, served as a workshop presenter in his field, and was a reviewer for Sage Publications from 2016 to 2017. He was a fellow of the American Orthopsychiatric Association and a member of the New York Society of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy.

Recently leading a five session lecture/discussion series and scheduled for further lectures on the topic of spirituality and psychology at the Church of the Good Shepherd-Faith Church in New York City. He previously served as an executive director for House of Carpenter in Boston and served on the board of directors for the Pierre Council on Arts in South Dakota, the Counseling Center Episcopal Church in Great Neck, NY, and the Tech. School of New York City.

In recognition of his professional achievements, Dr. Tester has been cited in countless editions of Who's Who during his tenure in academia, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. One of five siblings, Dr. Tester resides in New York City and enjoys hiking in the mountains during his free time. He also loves watching movies.
