With more than 40 years of industry experience to his credit, Dr. Rumberger has worked as director of cardiac imaging and lipid management at the Princeton Longevity Center since 2006, as well as clinical professor of medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine with the Division of Cardiology at The Ohio State University since 1999. Prior to these appointments, he held several roles with the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine at the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, such as professor of medicine from 1996 to 1998, associate professor of medicine from 1992 to 1996, and assistant professor of medicine from 1987 to 1992. Previously, he served as an assistant professor for the Department of Internal Medicine with the Division of Cardiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in the University of Iowa from 1985 to 1987.
From 1984 to 1987, Dr. Rumberger held the position of adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Iowa following a short term as an instructor and associate in medicine for the Department of Internal Medicine with the Division of Cardiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals. He also built his career at the Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University, working in the Department of Internal Medicine as an intern from 1978 to 1979, a resident from 1979 to 1981, and an instructor in internal medicine from 1978 to 1981. Dr. Rumberger began his career in 1976, as he was recognized as a visiting research associate with the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at The Ohio State University in 1976.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Rumberger pursued an education at The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, cum laude, in 1972. That same year, he received a Master of Science from the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at the same academic institution. He followed this accomplishment with a Doctor of Philosophy from the Graduate School of The Ohio State University in 1976. Dr. Rumberger concluded his studies at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine in 1978.
Currently licensed to practice medicine in Ohio and New Jersey, Dr. Rumberger was previously admitted to practice in the states of Minnesota, Maryland, Connecticut and New York. He has been certified by the American Board of Medicine in 1981 and the National Medical Board from 1977 to 1979. He was also certified to treat cardiovascular diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1987, and has been certified in cardiac computed tomography, echocardiography, and cardiovascular computed tomography since 2007. Additionally, he has contributed many articles and reviews to esteemed journals, such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the American Journal of Physiology and the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Beyond his efforts within the field, Dr. Rumberger has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. A medical director at the Wellness Diagnostic Center for PrevaHealth from 2006 to 2011, he was a staff cardiologist for Grant/Riverside Methodist Hospitals, St. Anne's Hospital, and McConnell Heart Health Center from 1998 to 2007. He also worked as a medical director at the Wellness Diagnostic Center for HealthWISE from 2004 to 2006, the Physician's Prevention and Wellness Center for VitalScan from 2002 to 2003, OhioHeart from 1998 to 2002, and Cardiac Rehabilitation and Preventative Cardiology at Grant Hospital from 1998 to 2001. Likewise, Dr. Rumberger has been the national medical director for Lifetest and Preventive Imaging Technologies from 2000 to 2001, consultant for the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases and Internal Medicine with Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research from 1990 to 1998, and the Senior Associate Consultant with the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases and Internal Medicine at the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research from 1987 to 1990.
In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Rumberger remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has maintained involvement with the American Heart Association since 1982, the American Federation for Clinical Research since 1985, the North American Society for Cardiac Radiology since 1986, the Minnesota Medical Society since 1987, and the American Medical Association since 1987. He has also been a founding and advisory board member for the Society of Atherosclerosis Imaging since 1999, and a founding member and incorporator with the Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography since 2005.
Likewise, Dr. Rumberger has been on the Committee on Cardiovascular Imaging and Intervention for the Council on Cardiovascular Radiology with the American Heart Association from 1990 to 2005, working as vice chairman from 1997 to 2000 and chairman from 2000 to 2003. Currently on the Council on Clinical Credentialing for the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, he was appointed to the Committee on Advanced Cardiac Imaging and Technology with the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association from 1990 to 1991 and the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association from 2001 to 2003. Dr. Rumberger has been associated with Sigma Gamma Tau since 1970, Texnikoi Engineering Honorary in 1971, the Central Society for Clinical Research of the American Federation of Clinical Research in 1993, and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society, from 1988 to 1998.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Rumberger has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. A fellow of the American College of Cardiology since 1989 and the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography since 2015, he was a fellow of Goodyear Aerospace from 1971 to 1972, the chief fellow in cardiology for the Department of Internal Medicine in the Division of Cardiology with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at the University of Iowa from 1982 to 1983, and a American Heart Association Iowa affiliate cardiovascular fellow with the University of Iowa from 1983 to 1984. A scholar of Tau Beta Pi in 1970, he was honored as the Most Outstanding Undergraduate and Honor Student with The Ohio State University in 1970 and 1971, respectively.
A lifetime member of the National Registry of Who's Who since 2000, Dr. Rumberger was presented with the Clinician Scientist Award by the American Heart Association from 1984 to 1989 and the Arthur Agatston Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award by the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography in 2015. He was additionally selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
