With more than 10 years of professional experience, Dr. Manrique is currently Co-director of the Surgical Transgender Clinic, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, where he focuses on plastic and reconstructive surgery. He offers a wide range of medical services related to microsurgery, perforator flaps, breast reconstruction, lymphedema, sex reassignment surgery, head and neck reconstruction, and lower extremity reconstruction.
An expert in the field, Dr. Manrique maintains involvement with a wide range of medical organizations, including the Massachusetts Medical Society, the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgery, the Northeastern Plastic Surgery Society, the American Thoracic Society, and the American College of Surgeons. In addition, he is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the American Society of Craniofacial Surgery. He has served as a co-director of the Exploratory and Planning Committee with the Transgender Specialty Clinic since 2017.
Dr. Manrique began his career by completing an MD at the Universidad Miltar School of Medicine in Bogota, Colombia, in 2001. He went on to complete a postdoctoral research fellowship in immunology, genetics, and molecular biology through Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He has also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care and a residency in surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Additionally, Dr. Manrique studied at the Boston Medical Center and Boston University, where he completed a residency in the department of surgery in 2008, fellowship in surgical critical care in 2009, and residency in surgery in 2011. Most recently, he completed a residency in plastic surgery with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2014, fellowship in microsurgery and reconstructive surgery at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine in 2015, and a fellowship in microsurgery and lymphatic surgery through the China Medical University Hospital in 2016.
Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Manrique has been recognized as an assistant professor of surgery with the Mayo Clinic. In recognition of his contributions to the medical community, Dr. Manrique was selected to receive a Leo M. Davidoff Society Award from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2014. He was previously awarded the Regan-Stryker International Fellowship Program Award from Operation Smile, and a Magna Cum Laude Scholarship from Universidad Militar. A military veteran, Dr. Manrique was recognized as a first lieutenant with the Columbia Medical Army Reserve.
