Barnaby Wittels, Esq., Celebrates More than 40 Years of Professional Excellence

With more than 40 years of legal experience to his credit, Mr. Wittels currently serves as president emeritus of East Falls Community Council, and has worked as a partner at LaCheen & Wittels since 2003. Prior to these appointments, he served as a partner at LaCheen & Associate from 1986 to 2003, an associate at LaCheen & Alva from 1982 to 1986, a law clerk to the Honorable Stanley Kubacki with the Court of Common Pleas in the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania from 1980 to 1984, and partner with Wittels, Newman & Bomstein from 1980 to 1981. Previously, Mr. Wittels began his career as an assistant defender with the Defender Association of Philadelphia from 1975 to 1980, and has served as master in The Philadelphia Criminal Law American Inn of Court and the Zoning Committee of East Falls Community Council.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Wittels pursued an education at Temple University, earning a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in 1970. Following this accomplishment, he received a Master of Political Science from Boston University in 1972. He concluded his studies at Boston University in 1975, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Mr. Wittels went on to be admitted to practice in Pennsylvania in 1975, by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 1985, and the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Second, Third, and Fourth Circuits in 1986.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Wittels has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. A guest lecturer for Philadelphia University, he has been a volunteer for Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers since 2003, and has contributed to various political and judicial campaigns since 1980. He was the chair of Northwest Victim Services from 1981 to 1984 and 1997 to 2003, where he served as counsel on the board of directors from 1983 to 1990 and since 2003. The 21st Division Committeeman for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party from 1985 to 1990, Mr. Wittels was the baseball coach for Chestnut Hill Fathers Club from 1985 to 1998, the commissioner for Chestnut Hill Fathers Club from 1991 to 1998, and as advisor on the Lawyer's Assistance Committee for Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas from 2004 to 2012. He also served as adviser to the Temple University Paramilitary Debate Team from 2004 to 2007. In addition to his primary trade, Mr. Wittels remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He is a fellow in the American Board of Criminal Lawyers and actively maintains membership with the, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Philadelphia Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense lawyers. Additionally, he has been involved with the Philadelphia Bar Association on the Committee to Elect Good Judges from 1987 to 1988, the Fee Dispute Committee since 1996, and the Lawyers Assistance Committee since 2003. Mr. Wittels also served on the executive committee of the Community Safety Program for the Northwest Interfaith Movement from 1981 to 1984.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Wittels has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. In 1983, he was presented with a Louis D. Apothaker Award from the Philadelphia Bar Foundation. He was recognized as a fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers in 2013. Mr. Wittels was also selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
