BIRMINGHAM, AL, April 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Edward Taub, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Taub celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Taub is a behavioral neuroscientist whose development of constraint-induced movement therapy (CI Therapy or CIMT) has led to significant advancements in rehabilitating patients after strokes, traumatic injuries, birth injuries, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological complications. Currently a university professor in the Department of Psychology, as well as director of the CI Therapy Research Group and Taub Therapy Clinic at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Taub is a highly respected authority in his field. His areas of expertise include behavioral medicine, behavioral neuroscience and neurorehabilitation, and he has also developed a form of CIMT proven to be effective at treating post-stroke aphasia. Through his research and implementation of rehabilitative techniques, Dr. Taub and the specialists at the Taub Therapy Clinic have succeeded at "rewiring" the brains of hundreds of patients (thousands around the world) while helping them learn to improve function in various parts of the body. His development of CI therapy was based on his own basic research with primates which was instrumental in overturning the then-dominant reflexological position of Sherrington asserting that reflexes were the building blocks of voluntary movement. Dr. Taub also developed the technique of thermal biofeedback, which enables people to self-regulate the temperature of their hands and other parts of their bodies. It is one of the most commonly used biofeedback modalities in clinical practice for the relief of such disorders as Raynaud's disease, migraine headache, hypertension, and other stress-related conditions.
The recipient of a Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College and Master of Arts from Columbia University, Dr. Taub earned a Doctor of Philosophy from New York University in 1969. He has held a number of academic positions throughout his career, teaching at such institutions as Johns Hopkins University, the City University of New York, the Universities of Konstanz, Jena, Tübingen, and Humboldt University of Berlin. At the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he has taught since 1986, he has supervised the research activities of numerous graduate students whom he encourages to publish their results. Dr. Taub's own list of publications is quite extensive and includes articles in professional journals, such as Science, Nature, the Lancet, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, American Psychologist, and the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
More than 700 papers have been written about the effects of the various forms of CIMT, many of which credit Dr. Taub as a co-author or co-researcher. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, as well as former president of its psychological section and a member the Society for Neuroscience and the American Psychological Association. As a result of his contributions to the field of behavioral neuroscience, he received the Distinguished Scientific Award from the American Psychological Association, a Distinguished Scientist Award from the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, and the William James Fellow Award from the American Psychological Society, among others. He has also been included in multiple editions of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in America.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Taub has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
