She formerly served as medical director for the Hamot Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit in Erie from 1999 to 2001, spent three years with the Hamot Institute for Behavioral Health, and five years as department director at the Integra Health Family Development Center in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Earning her undergraduate degree at Muhlenberg College in 1981, and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1986, Dr. Brunner completed her residency work at the University of Kentucky in 1992 and became licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania. She is currently affiliated with the Millcreek Community Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children and UPMC Hamot Medical Center, all of which are located in Erie. First inspired to specialize in her particular field, Dr. Brunner credits her success to Dr. Charles Zeanah Jr., an infant psychiatrist who began the movement of infant psychiatry.
An elected fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Brunner is also a longstanding member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Married to Fred F. Martinez, she enjoys genealogy, walking and knitting.
