Dr. Tandberg is renowned for her work in theater education and costume design. For more than 35 years, she served the School of Theatre at Louisiana State University as a historian and costume designer. She began her career as an assistant professor at Minot State University in 1966, holding the position for seven years. Over the course of her career, she has applied her expertise as a costume designer in a variety of additional capacities. For 25 years, she acted as a costume consultant on a variety of film sets. She has also lectured in the field, served as a critic, and has held the title of vice president of multiple theater organizations. She served the Costume Society of America in a number of positions, which included acting as a dress journal reviewer from 1991 to 2003, and as a board director and co-chair of the Region 6 Conference in 1996, and as board member and vice president from 1988 to 1991. She also designed costumes at the University of Tulsa and at the Central State University. She served multiple other organizations throughout her career, including the Louisiana State Art Council at the Louisiana Department of Culture Recreation and Tourism and the American College Theatre Festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Outside of the theater, Dr. Tandberg has also served the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary as a public relations officer at Flotilla 4-10 and with Regional Division IV from 1980 to 2006.
Dr. Tandberg graduated with a Ph.D. in theater arts from the University of Minnesota in 1973. She continued her education as a postdoctoral student at the Courtauld Institute of Art, California State University, the University of Texas, Central Saint Martins at the University of the Arts London, and in the Women's and Gender Studies Program at Louisiana State University. She also received a Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota in 1969, and a Bachelor of Science in English, French, and education from Minot State University in 1963. She is the author of General Learning Press and has contributed numerous articles to professional journals.
In recognition of her outstanding creative contributions, Dr. Tandberg was recognized with a Gold Medallion by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 1984, and an Outstanding Service Citation by the Southwest Theatre Association. She was also a Grantee of the Student Technology Fee from 2000 to 2002. She is featured in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. In addition to her career success, she also celebrates more than 35 years of marriage with her husband, Maurice Berger.
