With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Safransky has served as an adjunct professor of school law and American government since 1989. In addition to his primary role, he was an administrator with the Walter Pownall Service Center from 1992 to 1997, and an assistant principal with Largo Middle School from 1991 to 1992. From 1986 to 1991, he was the director of administration for Pinellas County School, and he was the director of the Mirror Lake Tomlinson Adult Vocational School from 1981 to 1986. Earlier in his career, Dr. Safransky served as the director of Clearwater Comprehensive Junior High School from 1968 to 1981, and as the social studies department head and student council sponsor at Seminole High School from 1962 to 1967. He began his teaching career in 1960 at Boca Ciega High School.
Dr. Safransky began his career as a student at St. Francis Major Seminary, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1957. He took history and education courses at Marquette University in 1956-57 and 1959. He went on to study at Stetson University, completing a Master of Arts in 1965. He later attended Florida State University, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 1972. Dr. Safransky is a certified professional educator by the Florida Department of Education.
A respected voice in his field, Dr. Safransky is affiliated with numerous professional organizations. He is a former president of the Pinellas County Social Studies Teachers Association, and a former director of the Florida Retired Educators Association and newsletter editor. In addition, he is active in his community, having been president of Phi Delta Kappa, a sergeant at arms of the St. Petersburg Rotary Club, a recorder and newsletter editor with the Knights of Columbus Council, and the former chair of the Pastoral Council of the St. Matthew Catholic Church. A U.S. Army veteran (1957-1959), Dr. Safransky has also contributed multiple articles to professional journals.
Throughout his career, Dr. Safransky has received awards and honors for his achievements. He was given the Great American Family Award from the St. Petersburg Association of Life Underwriters, a Service Award from the Education Law Association, and an Outstanding Educator Award from Suncoast. In addition, St. Petersburg named him an Outstanding Young Educator, and the Knights of Columbus Council named him Knight of the Year. In his free time, Dr. Safransky enjoys traveling and reading.
