Bringing with her a famed career background that has included corporate marketing, management and public relations, she formerly served as the director of communications for the National Trust for Historical Preservation, was involved with the "Restore America" collaboration on HGTV and even served in the White House under President Clinton. Ms. Newburger also served as an associate administrator for the General Services Administration in Washington and as a marketing manager at The Washington Post. Ms. Newburger currently serves as chair of the board of directors for the Arena Stage, 2013-2016, and as vice president of the board of directors since 1993. She also has served as Chairman of the Board and trustee of the executive committee for the National Children's Museum since 2005, has been on the board of directors for ApolloPacs since 2004 and BoatUS since 1994, and has been a member of the advisory board for Eleanor Roosevelt Papers since 2000 and trustee of the Franklin Roosevelt Library since 2015. She formerly served in numerous other capacities, including as trustee for the Jewish Women's Archives and on the board of directors for the National Women's Hall of Fame and the National Women's History Project. A former member of the Women in Advertising and Marketing, Ms. Newburger served on the organization's board of directors from 1986 to 1989.
Earning her undergraduate degree at Cornell University in 1959, Ms. Newburger has been the recipient of several awards throughout her career. She was twice named Woman of the Year by the Service Guild in Washington in the early 1970s, received a Silver Anvil Award by the Public Relations Society of America in 2000, President Hammer Award in 2001, Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Children's Museum in 2012, Arena Stage Beth Newburger Schwartz Award in 2015 and Tony Award for Producer Dean Evan Hanson in 2017. Married to her first husband Alan C. Newburger for 17 years until his passing, Ms. Newburger later married Richard Schwartz in 1989. He recently passed away in 2015. She has four wonderful children and eight grandchildren.
