Prior to this appointment, Dr. Baek was an assistant and associate professor with the school.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Baek pursued an education at Sangmoon High School, graduating in 1986. He followed this accomplishment by graduating from Dongguk University. He continued his studies at Tokyo University, earning a Master's degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in architecture.
Beyond his responsibilities in his primary trade, Dr. Baek participates in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. Previously, he has worked for the Architectural Design Department at Daewoo Corporation, Plantec Architects, and Nikken Sekkei. He has also found much success with his written works, having contributed articles to numerous esteemed journals, including the Journal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering, translated and penned "Form and Design of Architecture" in 2012, and he has written papers dealing with the transformation of university campuses, shopping malls, international expositions, and art museums. Furthermore, Dr. Baek has completed military service for the Republic of Korea, having risen through the ranks of ROTC cadet, first and second lieutenant as an army artillery officer, and as an army artillery reserve officer.
In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Baek remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has been a member of the Architectural Institute of Japan, the Architectural Institute of Korea, and the Korean Institute of Cultural Architecture. Likewise, he has been on the Evaluation Committee for the Korea Public Procurement Service Administration, Korea Asset Management Corporation, Korean Educational Development Institute and Korea Land & Housing Corporation. Dr. Baek has maintained involvement on the Urban Landscape Committee in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Baek has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He has been recognized as an International Scholar by the Government of Japan, the Best Teaching Professor by Dongguk University in 2010, among the Top 10 Hottest Authors in Architectural Planning and Design, and among the Annual Top 100 Hottest Authors by the Architecture & Urban Research Institute in 2014. Dr. Baek has been additionally presented with the Six Artillery Brigadier General Achievement Award by the Republic of Korea Army in 1991.
