Starting out her career in the medical field as a licensed practical nurse, Dr. Weinhold was always compassionate, caring and, at her core, very curious. That curiosity was encouraged by the surgeons and mentors she had around her, leading Dr. Weinhold to explore an area of medicine where she knew she could help to make a life changing impact on her patients as a substance abuse counselor. She accepted a scholarship with the Pennsylvania State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1975. Thereafter, she achieved a Master of Science from LIU C.W. Post Center in 1982 and a Doctor of Philosophy in experimental psychology from Fordham University in 1986.
Dr. Weinhold's career has been marked by success because of her true passion for her field. Now retired, her final role was serving as a substance abuse counselor for Hope Village, Inc., for 21 years. Previously, she held prominent positions, including consultant for the Clinical Consultant Group at ANTECH Diagnostics, social sciences program coordinator for the National Institute on Drug Abuse at the National Institutes of Health, and assistant professor and instructor at Gettysburg College. When asked of her success, Dr. Weinhold credits the support she received from her mentors at three critical moments of her career: Dr. David Ingersoll inspired her when she was a student at Fordham University, Dr. George Bigelow and Dr. Maxine Stitzer worked with her immensely on her research and transition into drug abuse counseling during a fellowship program at Johns Hopkins University, and Dr. Jerome Jaffe and Dr. David Gorelick, who were her leaders at the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
With widespread success and a direct impact on the lives of others, Dr. Weinhold has been invited into prominent programs in her field. She was honored as a staff fellow with the National Institute on Drug Abuse Intramural Research Program, a postdoctoral fellow with Johns Hopkins University, and a senatorial scholar with the Pennsylvania State University.
