Dr. Lee is an associate professor in the department of media and communication at Far East University, a small university located in North Chungcheong province of the Republic of Korea that was founded in 1998. Taken on board in 2011, the university has since evolved into one of the most prestigious private schools linking the capital region with the central region. In academia since 2002, Dr. Lee spent her former years as a researcher, teacher and administrative assistant at Seoul National University and overseas as a visiting scholar in the School of Journalism at the University of Oregon in the United States.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Lee has written extensively in her field of study. She has contributed to such publications as the Korean Journal of Journalism and Communication Studies, the Sungkyun Journal of East Asian Studies (A&HCI) and CyberPsychology and Behavior (SSCI) on a number of topics such as effacement of censorship, censorship of photographs, photograph use on social network sites and authoritarian press control. She has also authored chapters to books by other authors, as well as conference papers. The results of Dr. Lee's writings have been praised with a Top Paper Award from the Korean Society for Journalism and Communication Studies in 2012 and a travel grant for a high-ranking student paper by the International Communication Association in 2006. From 1997 to 1999, she was a student journalist for the Daehak Shinmun.
Dr. Lee received a Superior Academic Performance Scholarship, Education College Dean Award, Assistantship, SNU Development Fund Scholarship and a Lecture and Research Support Scholarship all through Seoul National University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in history education and communication, cum laude, in 2002, a Master of Arts in communication in 2004, and a Doctor of Philosophy in communication in 2010.
