Now retired, he taught at Northwest State College for 31 years. Dr. Bergman taught microbiology, genetics, anatomy, biochemistry, chemistry, and nutrition for the health science technologies on campus during his tenure there. Hired in 1987, he also taught for several years at the Medical College of Ohio as a research associate in the department of Experimental Pathology and as an adjunct professor beginning in 1998. Dr. Bergman formerly taught at the University of Toledo for 6 years in the area of statistics and at Bowling Green State University in Ohio for 7 years where he focused his efforts on teaching, research, and publishing. He was also an associate professor of psychology at Spring Arbor University. Since 1994, he has served as the director of the Society for the Study of Male Psychology and Physiology.
Dr. Bergman first earned his undergraduate degree at Wayne State University in 1969, followed by a Master of Education in 1971 and a PhD in 1976. He then completed a master's degree at Bowling Green State University in 1986, followed by a second PhD at Columbia Pacific University in 1992, an MS in Biomedical Science at the Medical College of Ohio in 1999, a Masters of Public Health at Northwest Ohio Consortium for Public Health in 2001, and an MS in Occupational Health at the Medical College of Ohio in 2004. Accepted as a Ph.D. student, department of chemistry, Miami University and completed 40 graduate quarter hours in chemistry. Also accepted as a Ph.D. student at Bowling Green State University and completed 60 hours of graduate level course work, primarily in the Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Bergman was granted his license in clinical counseling and was employed at Arlington Psychological Associates as a therapist for several years.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bergman has lectured extensively worldwide and published multiple articles in various professional journals and 43 books in his area of expertise. An elected fellow of the American Science Affiliation and a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Chemical Society, Dr. Bergman was also the founder and first president of the Bowling Green State University Friends of the Library.
The recipient of a Langsford Award for Excellence in Writing in 1998 and a Paul C. Krouse Teaching Award in 2000 and 2005, Dr. Bergman has been showcased in more than 10 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the Midwest. Married to Dianne Haldiman since December 1985, he has two children, two step-children, and 10 grandchildren.
