    EL PASO, TX, June 14, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jerzy Sarosiek, MD, is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. Drawing upon more than four decades of experience in a wide range of academic appointments, Dr. Sarosiek serves as a professor of medicine with the department of internal medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso. For nearly a decade, he has also been recognized as the vice chair of research with the university. Since the inception of his career, Dr. Sarosiek has filed patents for human esophageal perfusion catheter and esophageal protection by mastication. He is perhaps best noted for performing research into the balancing aggressive factors and protective mechanisms in the health and diseases of the alimentary tract, including a collaboration with 2005 Nobel Prize winner Dr. Barry Marshall in his work with Helicobacter pylori colonization.

A respected voice in the scientific community, Dr. Sarosiek has served as an invited reviewer for Gastroenterology, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, Digestive Diseases and Sciences, American Journal of the Medical Sciences, Digestion, Digestive Diseases, Gut and Clinical Chemistry. In addition, he has contributed 130 papers to peer-reviewed journals and 18 chapters to medical books. A committed educator, Dr. Sarosiek has served as a visiting professor with the Jagiellonian University Medical College for nearly two decades.

Prior to pursuing a medical career, Dr. Sarosiek developed an interest in the profession as a child. During this time, he was intrigued and puzzled by how the body and mind worked. Driven by a desire to learn more, Dr. Sarosiek attended the Medical University of Bialystok, where he received an MD in 1969. He went on to complete a residency in medicine and internship through the university while pursuing a PhD with the Biochemical Institute, which he received in 1975. Throughout the next decade, Dr. Sarosiek held a variety of research positions with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, University of Virginia Health Science Center and Kansas University Medical Center. Since 2009, he has served as the Professor of Medicine, Vice Chair of Research, Internal Medicine Research Committee Chairman and Molecular Medicine Research Laboratory Director with the Department of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso.

Early in his career, Dr. Sarosiek served as an attending physician with the Medical University of Bialystok. He went on to join the New York Medical College, where he briefly served as a gastroenterology research fellow. Upon relocating to the United States in 1986, Dr. Sarosiek joined the Westchester Medical Center as a gastroenterology research fellow with the New York Medical College.

Dr. Sarosiek attributes his success to his passion for his chosen field of study, as well as having great desire and discipline to excel in his profession. In an effort to remain alert of recent developments in the medical field, he maintains involvement with the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society, Southern Society for Clinical Investigation, The New York Academy of Sciences, Polish Gastroenterological Association and Polish Society of Surgery. In addition, he is a member of the scientific committee with the World Organization for Specialized Studies on Diseases of the Esophagus. Dr. Sarosiek is also a recognized fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and American College of Gastroenterology.

In recognition of his contributions to the scientific community, Dr. Sarosiek was recently selected to receive an honorary doctorate from the Medical University of Bialystok. He has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including the 63rd edition of Who's Who in America, which was published in 2008. Dr. Sarosiek has received numerous awards from the American College of Gastroenterology, including the AstraZeneca Senior Fellow Award, Clinical Research Award and Astra Merck Award. Named Man of the Year by the American Biographical Institute in 2003, he was also selected to receive The World Medal of Freedom in 2005.
