A tenured civil engineer and specialty products manager with Associated Asphalt in Roanoke, VA, since 2017, Mr. Corun boasts extensive experience in all phases of asphalt paving technology from the liquid asphalt to the completed paving project, as well as in liquid asphalt formulations and quality control, marketing, promotions and industry training. Prior to joining his firm last year, he served as the director of asphalt technology services with Axeon Specialty Products in Stamford, CT, between 2014 and 2017 and in the same capacity with NuStar Asphalt LLC in San Antonio between 2008 and 2014. Earlier in his career, Mr. Corun spent nearly 30 years as the vice president and general manager of his own business, Corun and Gatch, Inc., an asphalt paving company in Fallston, MD.
Receiving an Associate of Arts in civil engineering at Harford Community College in 1972 and Bachelor of Science in civil engineering at the University of Maryland in 1974, Mr. Corun has since participated in a number of different continuing education activities, has contributed several articles in various publications such as "Roads and Bridges" and "Paving the Way," and has taken part in more than 20 webinars, conferences and workshops globally in such locations as The Netherlands, China and Canada.
A longtime member of the Asphalt Institute where Mr. Corun has been serving on the Technical Advisory Committee since 1999 and as chairman of the LCA Task Group since 2015, he is also a member and former president of the Association of Modified Asphalt Producers and board of directors and co-chairman of the Northeast Asphalt User Producer Group. Furthermore, he is a member of the National Asphalt Pavement Association and serves on the Pavement Economics Committee, Sustainability Committee, Committee for Asphalt Research Technology, Environmental Committee and the Engineering Advisory Council.
A finalist for the Sheldon G. Hayes Award in 1994 and the recipient of a NAPA Ecological Award in 1987, Mr. Corun was recently granted his first patent for fuel-resistant liquid asphalt binders in 2017. Since 2000, he has been cited in more than 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Finance and Industry and Who's Who in Finance and Business. Mr. Corun has two children and two grandchildren and enjoys playing golf and participating in high performance driving events with his Shelby Mustang GT 500.
