YORK, PA, July 26, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Sheldon Eric Yourist with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Yourist celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A senior global design director at Graham Packaging Company in York, Pa. since 1996, Mr. Yourist is a talented and tenured designer who formerly worked in the same capacity for The Pfaltzgraff Company, also in York, from 1988 to 1996, and as a designer and sculptor for Teleflora Inc. in Los Angeles from 1983 to 1987. During his years with Teleflora, Mr. Yourist was the company's sculptor for five years, and during his time there he also did some creative work for the Franklin Mint. Prior to that job he worked for Pietro Studios in Hollywood, a sculpture house that specialized in architectural ornamentation where he designed and created sculptures, furniture, fireplaces and fountains. One of Mr. Yourist's first jobs at Pietro's was to design and sculpt the architectural ornamentation for a Saudi Prince's home, which included over 90 windows, corbels, wall reliefs, and custom walkways that surrounded the 20,000 sq. ft. single family dwelling in Beverly Hills, CA.
Earning a BFA in Sculpture and Printmaking with honors at Indiana University in 1981, Mr. Yourist was the first undergraduate to become an associate painting instructor in the schools' Scenic Opera department, where he worked as an artist. During this time, one of the schools' opera creations "The Greek Passion", became the first university opera in the United States to send its sets and performers to the Metropolitan Opera House to perform in New York City, as featured in Newsweek magazine in the Spring of 1981.
Mr. Yourist has been in the design business now for 37 years. Since that time, he has earned 170 U.S. patents and 62 foreign patents which specialize in the design and utility for the blow molded rigid plastics industry. He also invented sculpting techniques that utilize new computer technology. In fact, he was one of the first people to sculpt ceramic dinnerware shapes on a computer while working at Pfaltzgraff. Mr. Yourist was able to transition from designing clay vessels to inventing custom bottle shapes for the packaging industry while still perfecting his computer sculpting techniques. Mr. Yourist repurposed early versions of car design software to develop bottle shape designs for the blow molded plastic industry. The evolution from hand work to computer work was one of the biggest transitions Mr. Yourist experienced. The accomplishments of his work have been written up in various publications such as the American Ceramic Society Bulletin, Tableware International, Design Engineering Magazine, Design News and Plastics Today. Mr. Yourist has been digital sculpting with computers since 1989 and currently uses haptic technology with virtual clay. He applies his talents to designing consumer packaging bottle shapes for Fortune 500 companies throughout the world. He now sculpts "Live" in front of his clients creating and inventing branded shapes that meet the marketing needs of Graham Packaging's customers.
Mr. Yourist served as a speaker at the American Ceramic Society, PET Planet, PET Strategies, the American Cleaning Institute, and Delcam International. Most recently he was a PechaKucha presenter for York Crafted in York, PA. He has received numerous awards, which include having multiple Top 10 winners chosen by Bride's Magazine for the most popular U.S. Dinnerware Patterns, in 1995 he won a Mickey Award from Walt Disney for the Best New Product where he designed a line of dinnerware shapes and accessories for Mickey & CO. For the packaging industry he's won a Worldstar Award, various Ameristar Awards, a Silver Award for the Nestle Bunny Bottle, and several Canadian and Mexican packaging awards.
A former president of the Board for Leadership York and Jewish Family Services in York and former board member of the York County Economic Alliance and The York Jewish Community Center, Mr. Yourist came from a family of artists. His father, sisters, various aunts and uncles were all artists. Taking classes at the Toledo Museum of Art every weekend when he was a child, he enjoyed a very unique and creative upbringing. His father, in particular, taught him a lot about the field. Married to his wife Laurie Elizabeth Thomson since July 1981 and a father of three, Mr. Yourist enjoys art, gardening, cooking, travel, hiking and coin collecting in his free time. He has been cited in multiple editions of Who's Who in America since 2006.
