Partner at Lovett Bookman Harmon Marks LLP in Pittsburgh, PA, Mr. Paschall is a tenured attorney who specializes in estate planning, estate tax advice, charitable gift planning, irrevocable life insurance trusts and multi-generational planning, guardianships, planning for beneficiaries with special needs and estate and trust administration. Practicing law since 1992, he formerly worked at Reed Smith LLP in Pittsburgh for 10 years. He also worked in health care administration for 18 years prior to going to law school at the age of 40, working for such organizations as East Liberty Family Health Care Center, Pittsburgh Planned Parenthood and the Health Systems Agency of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Mr. Paschall recently began teaching as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2018. Lecturing on ethics, estate taxes and estate planning, he has also published in the areas of law and economics and constitutional law and is the co-author of the book "Law and Economics from an Evolutionary Perspective," published in 2016. His manuscript on the evolution of corporations and their effect on financialization of the economy was also accepted just this year.
Serving in a variety of roles during his career, Mr. Paschall is a former consultant for Partnership for Human Services, chaired the Pittsburgh Presbytery Mission Council, served with the Pennsylvania Directors of Planning and the East Liberty Family Health Care Center, and was a member of the Pittsburgh Presbytery Health Task Force. Locally, he has been active as the vice president of the Pennsylvania Organization of Women in Early Recovery, and as the treasurer of The River Project since 2010. A longstanding member of the probate law section and the trust law section of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Association for Evolutionary Economics and the Association for Institutional Thought, Mr. Paschall is also on the board of directors of the Association for Evolutionary Economics. From 2013 to 2014, he served on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Elder Law Task Force.
Mr. Paschall earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics, cum laude, at Oklahoma City University in 1970, a Master of Science in economics at Oklahoma State University in 1972, a Master of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh in 1974, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence, magna cum laude, at Duquesne University in 1992. The recipient of a Micah 6:8 Award from the East Liberty Family Health Care Center in 2017, Mr. Paschall has been named to Best Lawyers in America for Estate Planning and Elder Law and has also been cited in Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the East.
