Dr. Englander Golden is a celebrated psychologist, amassing more than 50 years of professional experience in the field of psychology. While still a graduate student at the University of Nebraska, she started research in Women's Studies. Even today, her research on Women's Studies is still receiving requests for her publications from many parts of the world. She was a professor at the University of Oklahoma where she started the program on Addition Studies and founded the Oklahoma Alcohol/Drugs Information Clearinghouse. The monthly newsletter reached about 8,000 people. She also started and was the director of the graduate program in chemical dependency training and taught courses to Army and Air Forde personnel on a number of bases in the United States and overseas. While at the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Englander Golden was a member of the Oklahoma Governor's Advisory Commission on Aging. She founded Say It Straight Foundation in Oklahoma and has been the director of training since 1982. She also was a professor at the University of North Texas in the department of rehabilitation, social work and addictions, where she was the Director of the Institute for Studies in Addictions.
To prepare for her illustrious career, Dr. Englander Golden pursued a formal education at Brooklyn College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in physics in 1956. She subsequently attended New York University in 1961, graduating with a Master of Science in physics. Dr. Englander Golden began her career as a senior scientist for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in 1962. After obtaining hands-on experience in the field of physics and publishing a number of papers in atomic physics, one of which was the most cited paper in a 10-year period, she changed directions from physics to psychology and attended the University of Nebraska, receiving a Master of Arts in psychology in 1974. She concluded her education at the University of Nebraska, where she obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology in 1977. Additionally, Dr. Englander Golden is a certified therapist and researcher through the International Board for Regression Therapy.
A prolific author, Dr. Englander Golden has contributed a myriad of articles to professional journals and was author of the book, "Say It Straight: From Compulsions to Choices," co-authored with Virginia Satir, published in 1991. In addition, she developed three videotapes for the United States Department of Education that include "Say It Straight: In the Classroom," "Say It Straight: Student Support Groups" and "Say It Straight: Family-Community Series."
Dr. Englander Golden's most recent publication is the book "BEING: Within-Between-Among-Beyond," co-authored with Dr. David E. Golden, published in 2018. Dr. Englander Golden maintains affiliations with the American Psychological Association and The Satir Global Network.
In light of her exceptional accomplishments in psychology, Dr. Englander Golden has accrued numerous accolades during her impressive career. The recipient of a citation from the Classic Science Citation Index in 1981, she was a grantee of the Office of Substance Abuse Prevention with the Department of Health and Human Services from 1989 to 1991. Notably, Dr. Englander Golden has been highlighted in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
