With more than 40 years of professional experience to his credit, Dr. Koch is currently retired, having most recently worked as a group leader for the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Hamburg, Germany from 1977 to 2006. In this post, he notably completed research in structural studies on biological macromolecules as well as synthetic polymers using synchrotron radiation. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of consultant for Janssen Pharmaceutica from 1975 to 1976. Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Koch pursued an education at Université Catholique de Louvain, graduating with a PhD in chemistry in 1970.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Koch has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He has found much success with his written works as well, having authored many articles for esteemed journals such as the Journal of Structural Biology, Biophysical Chemistry, the Journal of the American Chemical Society and the European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, among others. Furthermore, he published "Small Angle X-Ray and Neutron Scattering from Solutions of Biological Macromolecules" in 2013 through Oxford University Press. In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Koch remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Chemical Society.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Koch has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He was previously presented with the Louis Empain Prize from the University Foundation in Belgium. Inspired to enter his profession by his parents, both of whom worked in the sciences as a biochemist and physiology professor, Dr. Koch was additionally selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in the World.
