With nearly 50 years of industry experience to his credit, Mr. McConnaughey is currently retired, having been recognized as a retired partner at Thompson Hine LLP since 1992. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of partner for Thompson, Hine & Flory from 1981 to 1992, McConnaughey, Stradley, Mone & Moul from 1979 to 1981, George, Greek, King, McMahon & McConnaughey from 1967 to 1979, and Laylin, McConnaughey & Stradley from 1962 to 1967. Previously, he served in the same role for McConnaughey, McConnaughey & Stradley from 1957 to 1962, as well as McConnaughey & McConnaughey from 1954 to 1957. During World War II Mr. McConnaughey served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 including 22 months in the European theater of operations.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. McConnaughey pursued an education at Denison University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1949. He continued his academic efforts with a Bachelor of Laws at the Ohio State University in 1951. For all OSU Law School alumni in 1967 their L.L.B. degrees were changed to JD degrees. Following these accomplishments, he was admitted to practice in Ohio in 1951.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. McConnaughey has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. An elder for the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Columbus, he held the role of trustee for the Upper Arlington Education Foundation from 1987 to 1993 and the Buckeye Ranch from 1967 to 1973 and from 1975 to 1981. From 1966 to 2016, Mr. McConnaughey has contributed to the board of directors for the North American Broadcasting Company, Inc., working directly with the radio stations WMNI, WRKZ and WJKR. During his active career, Mr. McConnaughey served on several corporate Boards of Directors including Alltel Corporation, Corco Inc. and Mutual Broadcasting System's parent company.
Furthermore, Mr. McConnaughey found success with the Ohio Young Republicans as state chairman and was a United States presidential elector in 1956. From 1951 to 1954, he served as the assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio. Mr. McConnaughey held the post of president for the Board of Education for Upper Arlington City Schools from 1967 to 1969 and the Columbus Town Meeting Association from 1974 to 1976. In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. McConnaughey remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has maintained involvement with the Columbus Rotary since 1965. Mr. McConnaughey is a member of the Scioto Country Club and the Athletic Club of Columbus.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. McConnaughey has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. He served for a term as a member of the Council of the Public Utility, Communications and Transportation Law Section of the American Bar Association. In 1983, he was inducted into the Tradition Hall for the Jones Junior High School in Upper Arlington, OH. Mr. McConnaughey was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
