Dr. Holtz is a tenured neurologist who has been a medical director for Wellstar Health Systems for the past 12 years. Additionally, he has also been working in his private practice and as clinical associate professor at Emory University College of Medicine in Atlanta for the past 41 years. Since 1997, he was an adjunct professor in the Department of Nursing at Kennesaw State University. Recognized for his work, Dr. Holtz was honored with a 2013 Excellence in Leadership Award and a 2009 Safety and Quality Award from WellStar.
Dr. Holtz is also an expert in stroke and sleep medicine, and he is affiliated with the WellStar Cobb Hospital, the WellStar Douglas Hospital, the WellStar Kennestone Hospital, the WellStar Paulding Hospital and the WellStar Windy Hill Hospital. A diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, he first earned his Bachelor of Arts at New York University. He would go on to graduate with a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati, followed by an internship at Cincinnati General Hospital, residency work in internal medicine and neurology at Emory University. Dr. Holtz also completed two years of service in the U.S. Navy between 1971 and 1973.
During his career, Dr. Holtz spent a year as the chief resident of the neurology section at Grady Memorial Hospital and spent time as a consultant for the Georgia Medical Care Foundation of Neurology. The co-author of "Conceptual Human Physiology" in 1985, he is the former president of the Georgia Neurological Society. Dr. Holtz was further a longtime member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Georgia Neurological Society and Alpha Omega Alpha.
Inspired by his uncle to become a physician, Dr. Holtz's uncle was also his personal hero. Attributing much of his success to his wife of 50 years, Carol Sue Smith, the two have proudly welcomed three children and 13 grandchildren into their family. Enjoying photography and tennis in his down time and an avid Falcons football fan, Dr. Holtz has been cited in nearly 30 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in the World.
