SPRINGFIELD, IL, August 24, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Travis Earl Tyler with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Tyler celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Tyer spent 13 years as an independent library consultant until officially retiring from the field in 2010. His lengthy career in library science began when he earned the role of librarian in the public-school systems in Gail, Lubbock, and Seminole, TX, from 1952 to 1961. As he pursued additional schooling, he continued to advance, earning the role of coordinator of young adult services at the Dallas Public Library within just 10 years of working in the field. He then became the library director at Lubbock Public Library and then Lubbock City-County Libraries before entering higher education as a graduate library school faculty-state personnel coordinator at Emporia State University and as a senior consultant of professional development at Illinois State Library. After nearly a decade of working in that capacity, Mr. Tyer became the executive director of the Great River Library Systems in Quincy, IL, which he upheld for 17 years while serving as a private consultant.
During his tenure, Mr. Tyer contributed articles to various professional library journals on a number of topics. He also remained active as a member of the American Library Association, the Illinois Library Association, the Illinois Center for the Book, Friends of Libraries U.S.A., and the Illinois School Library Medial Association. He is a lifetime member of the Friends of Lubbock City-County Libraries and the University of North Texas School Library and Information Science, who inducted him into the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in 1990. Throughout Mr. Tyer's career, he also lectured summer workshops at Texas Woman's University, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Utah, Florida State University, and the University of North Texas, and was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Missouri from 1986 to 1989.
Mr. Tyer provided his expertise to several local organizations as well. He spent several years as a member of the advisory committee for the Illinois State Library, was president and secretary of the Resource Sharing Alliance West Central Illinois, Inc., shortly served as president of the Illinois Library System Directors Organization, and recently served as president of the resident's council for the Hickory Glen Senior Living in Springfield, IL.
Earning a BS from Abilene Christian University, Bachelor of Library Science from the University of North Texas, AdM in Library Science from Florida State University, and postgraduate work at Florida State University, for two additional years, Mr. Tyer has been married since 1951 to Alma Lois Davis and has two children. He has been featured in every edition of Who's Who in America since 1987, and every edition of Who's Who in the Midwest since 2000.
