Currently, he serves on the board of directors of the Vanderbilt University Medical Alumni Association and as medical director for Shoulder Center Kentucky and the Sports Medicine Center of the Lexington Clinic, where he has also worked as head of the orthopedic surgery section. Over the years, he has lent his expertise in medicine on a national and international scale as a visiting professor and presidential guest speaker. Additionally, he was the first to describe scapular mechanics and dysfunction kinetic chains in complex athletic activities, the alterations in shoulder range of motion, and closed chain rehabilitation. His career boasts many achievements, but one that stands out was developing, describing and reporting outcomes for two surgical procedures: one for the repair of scapular muscle detachment and the other for reconstruction of AC joint injuries.
Certified through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Kibler holds a Bachelor of Arts and an MD from Vanderbilt University. Subsequently, he completed an internship in surgery through Parkland Hospital and a residency in orthopedic surgery through his alma mater. In order to stay abreast of changes in the field, he affiliates himself with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of America, the International Society for Arthroscopy, the American Shoulder and Elbow Society, the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kibler has authored a number of creative works, including "The Athletic Preparticipation Exam," "Functional Rehabilitation of Sports Injuries" and "Disorders of the Scapula and Their Role in Shoulder Injury." He also edited 13 books alongside other industry scholars. In addition to being named one of the Best Doctors in America every year since 2004, he was recognized with the Hughston Award by the American Physical Therapy Association, a Citation Award by the American College of Sports Medicine and the Thomas Brady Award from the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. Professional publications such as Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare have also included him for his outstanding work in medicine. Looking toward the future, Dr. Kibler intends to experience continued success as medical director of two clinics.
