With more than 40 years of industry experience to her credit, Dr. Edwards has worked at the Champion Women's Center, her private practice in obstetrics and gynecology in Houston, TX, since 1981. Dr. Edwards began her training OB/GYN internship year (1976-1977) at the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. She then returned to The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (1977-1980) to complete her residency training in OB/GYN. She stayed on as Assistant Professor of OB/GYN, teaching residents and medical students. In 1981 she started her private practice in OB/GYN in Houston. She has been Board Certified in OB/GYN as a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (F.A.C.O.G.) since 1982.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Edwards pursued an education at the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, Cum Laude in December 1971. She concluded her studies at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1976, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Edwards became licensed to practice medicine by the State of Texas in 1976.
Beyond her efforts within the field, Dr. Edwards has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She is currently affiliated with CHI St. Luke's Health at Vintage Hospital, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center in Houston, TX and Houston Northwest Medical Center in Houston, TX. Presently she holds a Clinical Professorship at UTMB Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology where she is involved in teaching medical students and residents.
She has held many academic positions with the UTMB Department of OB-Gyn. Currently she is a Clinical Professor with the UTMB OB/GYN Department. She has also served as Chief of Staff at Houston Northwest Medical Center (2004-2005), Chief of Service OB/GYN (1989-1990) at Houston Northwest Medical Center, and Chief of Service OB/GYN (2010-2012) at CHI St. Lukes Vintage, Houston.
Dr. Edwards is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Daughters of The Republic of Texas, Daughters of The American Revolution, President General (2015-2017), and she remains a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a board member of three nonprofit groups (Hallet Oak Foundation, Hallettsville Cultural Event Center, and Willard R. Cooke Obstetrical & Gynecological Society), and served 6 years on the UTMB Alumni Board of Trustees. She has been selected several times for inclusion in Super Doctors Texas and Houston since 2007 as well as Who's Who of American Women. Dr. Edwards was honored by the medical students with the OBGYN Golden Apple Award (2013/2014 and 2016/2017).
