GREAT FALLS, VA, September 11, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Elaine H. Mullen with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Elaine H. Mullen celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With 40 years of practiced industry experience under her belt, Ms. Mullen serves as a research biologist with The MITRE Corporation, where she started as a scientific illustrator in the 1970s. At the beginning of her career, she worked as a lab technician. However, she took issue with how animals were being used and decided to change careers. Ms. Mullen's work as a medical illustrator for the Medical College of Virginia established the basis of her obtaining a job as a scientific illustrator with The MITRE Corporation. While working in this capacity, Ms. Mullen conducted independent research on glycoprotein films that she had accidentally discovered in 1975.
During her career with the MITRE Corporation, Ms. Mullen has lent her expertise to a number of technical papers, including "Designing Glycoprotein Films and Micelles to Capture and Remove Pathogens from Aqueous Suspensions." This paper describes her research on transparent, detergent-resistant glycoprotein films developed at The MITRE Corporation to help characterize disease-causing pathogens, and also prevent infection.
An expert in her field, Ms. Mullen holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from Virginia Commonwealth University. In order to remain aware of changes in the industry, she affiliates herself with the Consortium for Functional Glycomics and the Society for Glycobiology. Over the years, she has been acknowledged many times for her work, earning a plethora of Recognition Awards for her accomplishments within The MITRE Corporation. She also holds five patents in the field of glycoprotein vesicles and their methods of use, for example, synthetic membranes and micelle-like structures comprising lipo-glycoprotein membranes, and the sequestering of glycoprotein molecules and oligosaccharide moieties in lipo-glycoprotein membranes and micelles (now called "glycelles"). In the near future, Ms. Mullen intends to enhance SugarBindDB, a database originally developed at The MITRE Corporation to support her research. The database currently lists human pathogens and carbohydrates to which they bind.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Elaine H. Mullen has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
