Born in Baghdad, Iraq on January 1, 1952. The son of Professor Abdul Aziz Al Duri and R. Amin. He has two sisters Huda and Bushra and one brother Taha. Accepted at the Baghdad University Medical School at the age of sixteen, he continued his final 2 years of medical studies at the Cairo University Medical School. He graduated in December 1975. In 1977, Dr. Al Duri travelled to the United Kingdom and qualified in his English Medical Entry Examination in the same year. Trained initially in accident and emergency care, and general surgery, he subsequently pursued orthopaedic surgery and general trauma surgery. Showed particular interest in knee surgery where much of his time was devoted since 1988. In 1990, he acquired a Master of Science degree in Orthopaedic Surgery from the University of London.
Dr. Al Duri joined the Wellington Knee Surgery Unit at the Wellington Hospital (Wellington South Building, St. Johns Wood – London) since its inception and served there as an Associate Specialist. He tutored and later worked with Mr. Paul Aichroth, the Founder and first Director of the Wellington Knee Surgery Unit. Much of his work concentrated on research in knee surgery both in and outside the unit. He travelled to international venues to share and exchange information on knee surgery. In December 2001, he left London and moved to the United Arab Emirates.
He has had a special interest in knee ligament surgery and has published several articles about knee surgery topics starting with A Letter to the Editor of Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research in vol. 240, July 1989. The Editor was Dr. Marshall Urist. The reply to this letter was by Joseph Torg. Relation of the Fibular Head Sign to Other signs of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Insufficiency.
