SILVER SPRING, MD, September 13, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Arlin Krueger, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Krueger celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Krueger has been recognized as senior scientist emeritus of the Goddard Space Flight Center since 2011. Prior to his retirement, he was a research professor with the University of Maryland Baltimore Country from 2000 to 2010, and a physicist and astrophysicist at the Goddard Space Flight Center from 1969 to 2000. Earlier in his career, Dr. Krueger was a physicist with the Naval Weapons Center from 1959 to 1969.
Dr. Krueger began his path to vocational excellence as a student at the University of Minnesota, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts (physics) in 1955 and completing postgraduate work from 1956 to 1958. Later in his career, he returned to his studies at Colorado State University, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in atmospheric sciences in 1984. Dr. Krueger is a member of the American Meteorological Society, the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of Earth's Interior, the American Geophysical Union, and Sigma Xi.
Throughout his career, Dr. Krueger has been recognized for his pioneering contributions in rocket ozone soundings and global mapping of the Earth's ozone layer with Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) instruments on NASA and Soviet satellites. TOMS images of an Antarctic Ozone Hole were convincing evidence for reaching an international agreement to ban the chlorofluorocarbons that depleted ozone, the 1987 Montreal Protocol. Dr Krueger used the same satellite instrument to obtain the first quantitative maps of volcanic eruption sulfur dioxide and ash clouds that were an uncertain factor in climate change as well as hazards to aviation. This has led to a 40-year record of all volcanic eruptions on the planet. He is author or co-author of over 200 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Krueger and the TOMS-EP Scientific Team received the William T. Pecora Award for "developing innovative techniques for providing unique atmospheric ozone, sulfur dioxide, and aerosol data for more than 25 years". The University of Maryland bestowed him with a W.H. Elkins Professorship, and Colorado State University named him a Goddard research and study fellow. National Aeronautics and Space Administration has presented him with an Exceptional Service Medal and an Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal. Dr. Krueger has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World.
