As a legal professional, he is well-versed in matters of arbitration and litigation, including investment treaty claims, contract claims, infrastructure projects, M&A, securities law, structured finance and derivatives claims. Mr. Kantor formerly served as partner and associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and was general counsel for Resolution Trust Corporation Oversight Board.
During his time at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, Mr. Kantor served as the lead partner in the firm's involvement in many prominent domestic and international project financings. He has represented investment banks, commercial banks, sponsors, institutional investors and government authorities in complex financing and investment transactions and has a substantial amount of experience in the energy, power, telecommunications, technology, air carrier, satellite, financial services and leasing industries. Mr. Kantor also represented financial institutions and users in connection with numerous complex credit, interest rate and foreign exchange structured finance and derivatives transactions. Furthermore, he represented U.S., Japanese and Canadian government agencies and multilateral financial institutions in a variety of financing transactions, workouts, bankruptcies and international re-schedulings.
A senior research fellow at Vale Columbia Center of Sustainable International Investment until 2014, Mr. Kantor has also been involved as the chair of the international dispute resolution and the international investment committees of the D.C. Bar, member of the American Bar Association, the International Law Association and the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, where he has served in multiple capacities. Mr. Kantor has contributed articles to various scholarly journals, and he was the author of the book "Valuation for Arbitration: Compensation Standards, Valuation Methods and Expert Evidence" in 2008 and the co-author of "Reports of Overseas Private Investment Corporation Determinations" in 2011.
Mr. Kantor was the recipient of a Fahy Award for Outstanding Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law Center in 2006, and he has been named to multiple law publications. He was recently named to Best Lawyers in America in 2017, and he has been listed in Chambers USA International Arbitrators, Super Lawyers and U.S. News and World Report's Tier One in International Arbitration, among others. He has also been cited in nearly 25 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Finance and Industry. Mr. Kantor holds a BA in Political Science and International Relations with honors from the University of Southern California and a Master's in Public Policy and JD with honors from the University of Michigan.
