Richard Shaw, Ph.D. was recognized as a fellow of the American College of Angiology, Inc., American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology.

With more than 40 years of industry experience to his credit, Dr. Shaw has worked at the California Pacific Medical Center as a research director in the Cardiology Fellowship Program since 2010 and director of research, quality and education in the Heart & Vascular Center since 2009. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of director of research, quality and education for the Sutter Pacific Heart Centers from 2003 to 2008. Previously, he served the San Francisco Heart Institute at Seton Medical Center as director of research and operations from 1991 to 2003, director of research from 1988 to 1990, and research program manager from 1985 to 1987. Dr. Shaw began his career as a staff nuclear medical technologist by Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA, from 1975 to 1969, as well as a research assistant at the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, from 1980 to 1985.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Shaw pursued an education at Duquesne University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1972. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Arts in statistics in 1977 from the Alliant International University, formerly known as the United States International University. He concluded his studies at the University of California, San Francisco, in 1984, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Shaw was board certified as a nuclear medical technologist.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Shaw has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He contributed to the Daughters of Charity Foundation of Saint Louis as a senior advisor on the steering committee for databases from 1993 to 1996. Furthermore, he held the roles of coach and board director for the American Youth Soccer Organization and the American Youth Baseball Association between 1990 and 2000. From 2000 to 2010, he excelled as president of the Burlingame High School Athletic Boosters. Dr. Shaw found success with his written works as well, having authored myriad published articles and book chapters and held the post of editor-in-chief for the Journal of Invasive Cardiology from 1989 to 2014.

In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Shaw remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has maintained involvement with the American College of Cardiology, serving the outcomes assessment subcommittee for the national cardiac database committee, since 1998, the National Cardiovascular Data Registry task force since 2001, and the publications subcommittee since 2001. He was also active as a former member of the Society for Clinical Trials and a scientific member of the American Heart Association. Likewise, Dr. Shaw was a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the Society of Behavioral Medicine, the American Statistical Association and the American Medical Informatics Association.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Shaw has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. Honored as the Training Program Teacher of Year by the California Pacific Medical Center in 2009 and 2015, he was recognized as a fellow of the American College of Angiology, Inc., American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. He has been previously presented with the Founding Father Award by the National Cardiovascular Data Registry with the American College of Cardiology in 2008 and the Impact Player of Year Award by the Mi-Corporation in 2005. Dr. Shaw was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
