Mr. Parsons led a very successful career in management consulting and marketing. A senior partner emeritus at McKinsey & Company, Inc. in New York City, he was employed with the global management consulting firm for more than 25 years. Joining the company in 1976 as an associate, he worked his way up to principal by 1982 and director of the consumer industries sector and leader of the global marketing practices and senior partner by 1988. Mr. Parsons retired as an active partner in 2001 and became Director Emeritus and member of the McKinsey Advisory Council Between 2001 and 2003, Mr. Parsons accepted an opportunity to serve as the chairman of Kantar Group of WPP, PLC. Notably, Kantar is the media marketing information arm of WPP and one of the world's largest insight, information and consultancy groups spread across 100 countries.
Enjoying many wonderful years at McKinsey & Company, which serves a broad mix of private, public and social sector institutions and serves a range of leading companies across financial services, healthcare, technology, media, public sector, and more, Mr. Parsons was involved in a variety of corporate challenges and opportunities. Starting his career in advertising, he later shifted gears to marketing and management consulting because he didn't believe that it would offer a lifetime career in the same way as consulting would. Fortunate to have been offered to work for one of the greatest management consultant groups in the world, Mr. Parsons is grateful for his many wonderful years at McKinsey.
On a leave of absence from McKinsey, Mr. Parsons was the founding vice president of marketing for Kurzweil Computer Products in Cambridge, Mass. between 1979 and 1980 where the company was sold to Xerox Corporation. He also went from strategic planning director to vice president of marketing for Prestige Group Ltd., a division of American Home Products, in New York City and London, England between 1970 and 1976 and was an account executive for LPE/Leo Burnett in London from 1965 to 1968.
A tenured board director who formerly served for Media Metrix, A.T. Cross Company, IXI Corporation and UST Inc., Mr. Parsons also devoted time on the advisory board for Quaero, Inc. and aQuantive, Inc and was active on the McKinsey advisory council. He continues to serve on the board of Engage121 Inc. (formerly ENR Services, Inc.), and PCIX, is an underwriting member of Lloyds of London, chairman of Gulliver Growth Partners LLC, president of Smithfield Estates LLC and advisory board member of District Management Group. In 2016, Mr. Parsons also became the president of Gulliver Risk Management Ltd. in the UK.
Locally, Mr. Parsons has served in a number of Board of Director or Trustee capacities for such organizations as United Way of Tri-State, United Way of New York, Sarah Lawrence College, the Salvation Army of Greater New York, Watch Hill Fire District Council, the Watch Hill Chapel and the Fisher Island Philanthropic Fund in Florida. He was the recipient of a Smith Barney International Fellowship in 1968, the George Hay Brown Prize, and was a 1970 Baker Scholar at Harvard Business School. A member of several avocational organizations as well, including the Fisher Island Club, the Shelter Harbor Golf Club, Ocean House Club, and the Watch Hill Yacht Club, Mr. Parsons has notably been included in more than 30 editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
Born in Kingston, Surrey, England, where Mr. Parsons earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree at Oxford University, he later arrived in the U.S. in 1968 where he pursued a Master of Business Administration at Harvard University. Happily married to Carol Ann Iannucci with two daughters and two granddaughters, he has noted that having a supportive and loving family has been an essential component to his career as a global management consultant due to the amount of travel that was involved. Married to his wife for 48 years, Mr. Parsons feels very blessed.
