Dr. Ludwig Braun was the first ever recipient of the Dr. Paul M. Pair Award for contributions to education through technology in 1995.

Dr. Braun began his career as an electrical engineer at Allied Control Company in New York City from 1950 to 1951. Following this appointment, he became head of the electronics department at Anton Electronics Laboratories, Inc., in Brooklyn, NY, from 1951 to 1955. From 1955 to 1972, Dr. Braun first worked as an instructor of electrical engineering and then as professor of system and electrical engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, now known as the New York University Tandon School of Engineering.
After this opportunity, Dr. Braun served as professor of engineering at the State University of New York at Stony Brook from 1972 to 1982. During this time, he also held the positions of director of the bioengineering program at the State University of New York at Stony Brook from 1976 to 1979 and director of personal computers in the education laboratory at the State University of New York at Stony Brook from 1979 to 1982. From 1982 to 1987, he was a professor of computer science and director of the academy computing laboratory at the New York Institute of Technology in Central Islip, NY. He was active as a research professor at New York University from 1987 to 1989. Dr. Braun concluded his career as a fellow at the Global Village Schools Institute from 1996 to 1998.
In addition to his career, Dr. Braun has been as technology advisor for the Orton Society in Suffolk County, NY, now known as the International Dyslexia Association. He has also been associated with the Boeing Company, General Electric, the Ford Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Education, IBM and NET Schools, Inc., now known as Global-Net Solutions, Inc. From 1970 to 1982, Dr. Braun held the role of lecturer and medical scientist at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center.
Additionally, from 1981 to 1987, Dr. Braun was director of the National Institute of Microcomputer Based Learning. During this time, he also contributed to the InterCounty Teacher Resource Center from 1985 to 1987. From 1993 to 1996, he was associated with the Mecklenburger Group, and from 1998 to 2004, he was senior fellow of the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University, now known as Long Island University Post. Dr. Braun has been a consultant for Educational Technology since 1990 and an adjunct research professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook since 2008.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Braun received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the New York University Tandon School of Engineering in 1950. Following this achievement, he obtained his Master of Electrical Engineering from the New York University Tandon School of Engineering in 1955. Dr. Braun concluded his education with a Doctor of Engineering in electrical engineering from New York University Tandon School of Engineering in 1959.
Dr. Braun has been a contributing author to a number of books, including "Perry's Chemical Engineering Handbook" in 1961, "Signals and Systems in Electrical Engineering" in 1962, "System Engineering Handbook" in 1965, and "Computer Techniques in Biomedicine and Medicine: Simulation and Modeling, Heath Care, and Image Processing" in 1973. He was also contributing author for "Vision: TEST (Technologically Enriched Schools of Tomorrow) Final Report: Recommendations for American Educational Decision Makers" in 1990 and "Celebrating Success" in 1995. Dr. Braun was also co-author of "Adaptive Control Systems," which was published in 1961.
Dr. Braun served on the International Council for Computers in Education from 1987 to 1989 and on the board of directors at Play to Win, Inc., from 1983 to 1990. He was also a member of the Women's Action Alliance from 1985 to 1988. In 1990, he was a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and from 1989 to 1990, he was on the board of directors of the International Society for Technology in Education. Dr. Braun is also a member of Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu.
Dr. Braun was the first ever recipient of the Dr. Paul M. Pair Award for contributions to education through technology in 1995. In 1999, he also received the National Educational Computing Association Pioneer Award. Dr. Braun has previously been selected for inclusion in the sixth edition of Who's Who in American Education, the 11th edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the East.
