Dr. Perrucci has been a professor of sociology of the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University since 1986. She began her professional career as an assistant professor of engineering administration at the university's School of Engineering from 1964 to 1966, and then switched to an assistant professor of sociology from 1966 to 1970. Following this, she was promoted to associate professor from 1970 to 1986. In conjunction with her current position, she has also been the university's chairman of women's studies from 1980 to 1981 and 1986 to 1988, the head of the sociology department from 1998 to 2003, and the director of the sociology undergraduate program from 2009 to 2017. In addition to her professional roles, she has been the university's associate dean of the graduate school from 1992 to 1998, an assistant to the equal opportunity employment officer from 1977 to 1979, and a consultant in her field.
Dr. Perrucci earned a Bachelor of Science from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN, in 1961. She went on to attend Purdue University, where she obtained a Master of Science in 1963 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1965. Years after graduating, she was the president of the North Central Sociological Association from 1985 to 1986, a member of the governing council of the American Sociological Association from 1990 to 1993, and the vice president of the Society for the Study of Social Problems from 2010 to 2011. She has also been a member of such organizations as Sociologists for Women in Society and the National Council on Family Relations.
Aside from her professional experience, Dr. Perrucci has authored five books, as well as contributed many articles to publications. She has also been on the editorial board of Social Problems as of 2018, and has been an editor of both the Sociological Quarterly from 1989 to 1992 and the Journal of Family Issues from 1990 to 1995. In addition, she has been a Master Gardener with the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service since 2009. She received a National Defense Education Act Fellowship from 1961 to 1964 and a Ford Foundation Fellowship from 1973 to 1974, and has also been awarded numerous accolades, including the Schleman Gold Medallion Award in 1981, the Outstanding Scholarly Achievement Award in 1990, the Violet Haas Recognition Award in 1991, and the Distinguished Woman Scholar Award in 2014, among others. She is listed in the 20th edition of Who's Who in the Midwest and the first edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
