Dr. Brenda Dressler continues to be associated with Touro College as a visiting professor and consultant.

Dr. Dressler began her career as a New York City public school teacher in Junior High School 52M, located in upper Manhattan where she initiated the first sex education program in the late 1960s that continued through 1984. Dr. Dressler began teaching health and sex education at I.S.141 Queens in 1984. While teaching at Bayside High School and Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Queens during the late 1980s, she developed and implemented the first parenthood program in all the health education classes. As a leading sex educator, she was profiled in Newsday in 1989 for her work in developing a sex education program in the high schools. In 1990, Dr. Dressler was appointed by the Queens Superintendent of public schools to be the Comprehensive Health Coordinator of the borough of Queens, NY, overseeing family living including sex education program (FLISE), and HIV/AIDS education including the Condom Availability Program from 1990 to 1995.
From 1996 to 2013, Dr. Dressler held the position of Associate Professor at New York Institute of Technology and Touro College in New York and taught Human Sexuality, Curriculum Development, and Special Education. Dr. Dressler continues to be associated with Touro College as a visiting professor and consultant since 2013 when she retired from full-time college teaching.
Prior to embarking on her career, Dr. Dressler received a Bachelor of Arts from the City College of New York in 1964. Following this achievement, she earned a Master of Arts from the City University of New York in 1969. She continued her education with a Doctor of Philosophy from the Human Sexuality Program at New York University in 1986. She is certified as a sex educator by the American Board of Sexology and certified as a master health education specialist by the National Commission for Health Educator Credentialing. Dr. Dressler is also certified by New York state as a health educator.
In addition to her career as a college professor, Dr. Dressler was president of the Greater New York Society for Public Health Education from 2004 to 2005. From 2004 to 2010, she served as the Regional Liaison and Leader of the New York City Task Force on Quality Inclusive Schools (NYCTFQUIS). She has also served as a consultant to the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) Teachers Center where she developed and taught their first online course, Child Abuse Identification and Reporting. Dr. Dressler advised the New York City Department of Education on their sex education curriculum. She was also a consultant at the New York Institute of Technology on child sexual abuse prevention education and developed a workshop on sexual harassment prevention for police officers.
Dr. Dressler created training designs for the New York State required teacher certification workshops. This includes child abuse identification and reporting; school violence prevention; child safety, child abduction and molestation prevention, drug and alcohol prevention, autism, and DASA, the prevention of harassment, bullying, cyberbullying, and discrimination of sexual orientation, gender, sexes, and disabilities. She also crafted a training design for college student interns in health literacy.
In 2010, Dr. Dressler volunteered to teach sex education and HIV/AIDS prevention education in Uganda. She taught at Kampala University, primary and secondary schools, and instructed nurses at treatment centers. She also conducted a workshop on child sexual abuse prevention at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel in 2010. During summers, when she returns to New York City from Florida, Dr. Dressler teaches DASA that she developed for Touro College.
From 1985 to 1986, she authored a book review, an article on Sex and the Single Parent: A guide for the 90s, and annotated bibliographies on child sexual abuse prevention for the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States. Dr. Dressler was also active as a curriculum writer at the New York City Board of Education (now the New York City Department of Education) for FLISE and HIV/AIDS prevention education for grades, kindergarten through sixth grade, seventh grade through 12th grade during the 1990s, and the Seasons of Peace's child sex abuse prevention curriculum. In 2000, she wrote seven chapters on HIV/AIDS education in seven "Know Your Body" books for grades K-6 by the American Health Foundation that was published in 48 states. Under her leadership, the NYCTFQUIS wrote Supporting Inclusive Classrooms: A Resource (2008) that was distributed to 1450 public school administrators, and college faculty in New York City, as well as in Albany, Buffalo, and Rochester. Dr. Dressler is also a regular contributor of research articles to professional journals.
Dr. Dressler is a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists, the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, Society of Public Health Education and the Women's Network of Book Association. She was accepted as a member of the National League of American Pen Women in 2018 and elected to the position of recording secretary at their Florida branch in Boca Raton. She has been honored by Kappa Delta Pi and has been awarded ten research grants over the course of her career. Dr. Dressler has previously been selected for inclusion in the 27th edition of Who's Who in the East, the 54th edition of Who's Who in America, the fifth edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and multiple editions of Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in American Education.
