Amassing more than three decades of professional experience, Dr. Warren is an esteemed physicist who has established himself in the industry as a prominent expert. Most recently working as an advanced engineer with Areva Company from 1987 until his retirement in 1994, he formerly served the company, known then as Babcock & Wilcox Company, in several capacities, including as a research specialist and senior physicist beginning in 1964. Prior to these respected roles, he served as a development physicist at Celanese Corporation from 1963 to 1964 and a research associate at the University of Virginia from 1960 to 1962.

Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Warren served as a consultant for Areva Company from 1994 to 2006, and to Babcock & Wilcox Company from 2009 to 2013. Likewise, he was also a Lynchburg election official from 1997 to 2007 and a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels beginning circa 2008, a role he continues to date. He has contributed myriad articles to professional journals in his area of expertise, as well as published a book on his own family history entitled "Warrens and Related Families of North Carolina and Virginia," published in 1990.

Inspired by his high school science teacher, Dr. Warren knew he wanted to delve into the sciences from an early age. Upon graduation from high school, where he earned valedictorian distinction, he volunteered for service in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War. Attending aviation schools while in the military, he became especially interested in physics and was afterward transferred to a blimp squadron and shore duty in North Carolina before his release to the Naval Reserve in 1955. He subsequently attended Wake Forest University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, summa cum laude, in 1959, as well as the University of Virginia, earning a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in physics in 1961 and 1963, respectively.

Dr. Warren is renowned for his research in theoretical and experimental development of self-powered neutron detectors for application inside the cores of nuclear power plants. A holder of multiple patents in the field, he was a member of the American Nuclear Society, the American Physical Society, Kappa Mu Epsilon and Phi Beta Kappa. As a testament to his professional success, he was honored with the I.R. 100 Award in 1984. A highlight of his career was the successful completion of a nine-year experiment at a nuclear power plant with SPNDs he developed alongside his team.
