After accruing 60 years of experience in religious work, youth services, education and consulting, Dr. Powers retired from his position with the New School's Milano School of Policy. At the start of his ministry, he served as pastor of United Church of Christ congregations in Hamden, CT and Pleasant Hill, Ohio. Called to the national staff of the Congregational Christian Churches (which became the United Church of Christ), he became key staff in programs for youth, Christian education and church development. After 30 years in ministry, Dr. Powers became a faculty member of the American Management Association's Competency graduate program. He left that position to enter his 33 years as a faculty member of the New School's Organizational Management Program.
At the beginning of his career, Dr. Powers received his BA from the College of Wooster. An M.Div graduate from Yale University Divinity School, he later received his Ed.D. degree from Columbia University. His books include "Journey Into Faith," "Signs of Shalom," "Theatre of the Spirit," and "In Essentials Unity."
For his professional accomplishments, Dr. Powers was honored with the first Annual Teaching Award from the New School. Additionally, he has earned numerous features in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in Religion and Who's Who in American Education. Looking ahead, Dr. Powers intends to continue writing and spreading the word of God to all.
