An established educator, Ms. Griffith taught advanced mathematics and chemistry at Piney Woods School in Mississippi from 1999 to 2005. Leading up to this role, she served as a reading assistant and data entry administrative support personnel at Simpson County Schools in Mendenhall, MS, from 1993 to 1998. In Valhalla, NY, she held a post as an associate food scientist for Pepsi Cola from September 1990 to 1992.
The first professional role Ms. Griffith held was as a food chemist for A.E. Staley Refinery in Decatur, IL, from 1988 to 1990. She is also a published author of poems from the International Society of Poets, of which she is the 2005 Founding Laureate Member. Approximately six of her poems were published from 1998 to 2006. She received an invitation from the Clinton Administration around 1999 to appear on former President Clinton's radio talk show to read her poetry. She was elated, but was unable to attend. Ms. Griffith also had her thesis work at Iowa State University published in the Journal of Dairy Science and disclosed a patent with Dr. Earl Hammond, her major professor and guru. Finally, she assisted a Middle School Lead Math instructor, who was part of a team with a junior college, in writing over half a million dollar Tech Prep proposal that was approved in 1997. A science/math lab was built at her location. These are honors that she considers to be highlights of her career.
Ms. Griffith first had an idea that she wanted to be involved with chemistry when she was in high school and learning chemistry from Mr. Adell Watts. To this day, she still maintains contact with him. After graduating from high school, she pursued academics at Tougaloo College, where she received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry/mathematics in 1985. She continued her studies at Iowa State University and earned a Master of Science in food technology, emphasis food chemistry, in 1988. Ultimately, Ms. Griffith obtained a Master of Business Administration from American InterContinental University in 2013.
Ms. Griffith maintains her presence in the field as a member of the Institute of Food Technologists. For her numerous contributions to the field, Ms. Griffith was named Chemist of the Year by the American Chemical Society in Washington, DC, in 2004. Aside from her passion for chemistry, she enjoys coin collecting, stamp collecting, classical music and solving Sudoku puzzles. She has previously been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
