From 2008 to 2010, Ms. Gamble was a career and technical education career exploration instructor at Cienega High School in the Vail School District in Vail, AZ. In the nine years leading up to this position, she was an instructor and student teacher supervisor at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ, and a student services specialist and adjunct faculty at Pima Community College in Tucson. She was also a home economics and career exploration teacher at Emily Gray Junior High School in the Tanque Verde School District in Tucson from 1984 to 1995.
In the year before taking this post, Ms. Gamble was a job specialist in Jobs for Arizona Graduates at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ, and the year before this, she was a food service specialist at Federated Food, Inc., in Sunnyvale, CA. From 1980 to 1982, she was a nutrition education and training program coordinator at the food and nutrition office at the Arizona Department of Education in Phoenix, AZ.
From 1978 to 1980, Ms. Gamble was a school lunch specialist in the food and nutrition office at the Arizona Department of Education. In the year before this, she was a consultant dietician in the child nutrition section at the Minnesota Department of Education in St. Paul, MN. From 1974 to 1977, she was a child care food program coordinator in the food and nutrition office at the Arizona Department of Education. Her first professional position was as a salesperson and manager at the Gold Bond Stamp Redemption Center in St. Paul from 1968 to 1980.
Ms. Gamble's academic pursuits began at North Dakota State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1974. Ultimately, she continued her studies and earned a Master of Science at the University of Arizona in 1990. Beyond all of this, she was certified by the American School Food Service Association.
Her maternal grandparents were immigrant farmers from Europe, but Ms. Gamble's mother was a nurse from rural North Dakota because the army offered nurses training during World War II. During the war, her mother knew a woman who was the county extension agent in home economics who entered rural areas and helped them with farming, food preservation and sewing. This inspired Ms. Gamble to enter home economics education.
Throughout the years, her civic involvement has been extensive. Not only has she instructed numerous workshops in the field, Ms. Gamble also participates in various church, nonprofit, and community organizations and activities. She served as a volunteer for the Vista University Year for ACTION in 1973; working on The Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation. She was an active PTA parent and School PTA President while her children were in school. Ms. Gamble was also an active volunteer with the National People to People Student Ambassador Program from 2001 through 2010 serving as an Arizona Delegation Leader for junior and senior high school students traveling as Ambassadors throughout Europe and Australia. She also served as an adult delegate for People to People International Global Peace Initiative to Egypt in 2007. She is involved with her church handbell choir and serves on the University of Arizona Family and Consumer Sciences Alumni Association Board.
Aside from this work, Ms. Gamble is a past member of organizations including the National Education Association, the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, and the American School Food Service Association. She was also a past chapter president of the Arizona Food Service Association and a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and Tau Beta Sigma.
As an expert in the field, Ms. Gamble has been involved in varied capacities with the creation of myriad creative works. In 1990, she contributed to the high school/college textbook "Child Development, Roles, Responsibilities, Resources" and assisted the development of standardization curriculum at Jobs for Arizona Graduates. Furthermore, she created a standardized curriculum for the Arizona Food and Nutrition Department, the state-sponsored pyramid of 15 courses for the adult education for food service employees, and the new course offerings for secondary, community college, university and adult-level education.
Some of Ms. Gamble's achievements over the years included teaching courses at secondary, college and university level. Some of the topics covered were advanced foods and nutrition, beginning and advanced sewing, student publications, teen home survival and career exploration. Others include student success skills, university transfer strategies, professional presentation and techniques, family studies and human development program development.
Ms. Gamble has been acknowledged for these many accomplishments over the years in the form of awards such as the Family and Consumer Science Outstanding Alumni Award in 2009, the Arizona State Public Information Officer Award from the School Food Service Association in 1980, and the National Public Relations Award from the American School Food Service Association in 1980. Moreover, she received a Citation of Merit Award for "Exceptional Efforts Towards Children's Nutritional Education" from the Governor of the State of Arizona.
Though these are impressive awards, Ms. Gamble is particularly proud of her balancing of home, family and career, which is a constant challenge. She considers highlights to be her successful 34-year marriage and two wonderful children, and her ongoing and lifelong friendships with many of her past students and coworkers through the years. She has previously been featured in Who's Who in the West and Who's Who of American Women.
