Dr. Kyesmu began his career as a lecturer and researcher at the University of Jos in Nigeria from 1986 to 2000. After this opportunity, he worked as a senior research fellow at the Sheda Science and Technology Complex in Abuja, Nigeria from 2000 to 2002 as well as deputy director of the National Biotechnology Development Agency in Abuja, Nigeria from 2002 to 2005. From 2005 to 2011, Dr. Kyesmu served as an adjunct professor of biology and microbiology at Florida State College at Jacksonville.
During this time, Dr. Kyesmu was also an adjunct professor of forensic science at Edward Waters College from 2008 to 2009. He has been further associated with Florida State College since 2011 as professor of biological science and microbiology. In addition to his career, Dr. Kyesmu is a member of the International Association of Plant Biotechnology and American Society of Microbiology.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Kyesmu earned his Bachelor of Science in plant sciences from the University of Jos in Nigeria in 1984. Following this accomplishment, he obtained his Master of Science in applied microbiology and plant pathology from the University of Jos in Nigeria in 1987. In 1996, he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in plant biotechnology from the University of London in England. Dr. Kyesmu concluded his education with postdoctoral coursework in forensic drug chemistry at the University of Florida in Gainesville in 2007.
Dr. Kyesmu's achievements include the development of cryopreservation protocols, in vitro propagation techniques for vegetatively propagated tuber crops and the development of genetic fingerprinting techniques for a minor tuber crop. He considers the highlight of his career to have been his work with the preservation of tubers as it was a major problem that he is proud to have helped to solve. Dr. Kyesmu has previously been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
