A highly qualified researcher in the area of modeling and simulation with more than 50 years of professional experience, Mr. Varvak is currently retired from a scientist position at the NAWC Training System Division, a post he held since 2004. Prior to this appointment, he held the same position with the Science Applications International Corporation.
Mr. Varvak began his professional work in Kiev, Ukraine, first as a senior researcher for the Research Institute of Structures and later as a senior engineer with the Construction Authority. His inspiration and dedication to the research profession was influenced by his uncle Petr Markovich Varvak, who was at that time a Professor in Structural Mechanics at the Kiev Highways and Automobiles Institute. P.M. Varvak was the dissertation advisor of many graduate students and very esteemed influential figure. He continued his career in the United States, in New York, working as a programmer for the Consulting Engineering Corporation from 1988 to 1995 until he began his graduate studies at the University of Central Florida under the supervision of his advisor Dr. Xin Li. In 1997, Mr. Varvak accepted the post as a scientist at the Science Applications International Corporation.
Mr. Varvak earned the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in Structural Mechanics at the Novocherkassk Polytechnic University in Russia (1970). This national degree is awarded by a university after successful defense of a specialized scientific dissertation. In 2000, he received a MS in applied mathematics from the University of Central Florida with the thesis: "Chebyshev Polynomials and their applications to error estimation in best approximation". He also earned a MS in Modeling and Simulation in 2016 from the University of Central Florida with supervision of his advisor Dr. Paul Wiegand.
