With more than 50 years of professional experience, Ms. Bryant has been the conductor and manager of the Bloomington Normal Youth Symphony, as well as a member of the adjunct music faculty of Illinois Wesleyan University since 1994. Prior to obtaining these roles, she was director of the orchestra program of McLean County United District No. 5 in Normal, IL, from 1968 to 1993 and an orchestra instructor with Elmhurst School District from 1967 to 1968. Earlier in her career, Ms. Bryant was a music teacher with Carbondale Area School District from 1965 to 1966.
Ms. Bryant was inspired to pursue a career in education from an early age, having been influenced by many of her own teachers. She began her career as a student at Illinois State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Music in 1965. Discovering that her passion was more in music than general elementary education, she continued her studies at the school, earning a Master of Music in 1970.
A respected voice in the field, Ms. Bryant has been affiliated with a number of organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She is a member of the Illinois Music Education Association, the Music Educators National Conference, and the American String Teachers Association. In addition, she has been a volunteer with the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts and the BroMenn Health Care Center.
Throughout her career, Ms. Bryant has been recognized for her contributions, having received a Distinguished Service Award from the American String Teachers Association. Normal Community High School gave her a Service Award, and she received a Van Leer Legacy Award. Ms. Bryant is an active member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Bloomington, IL. She has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in American Education.
